Elisa Mandis
Learning Clinician
Elisa has spent her entire career working with young people with diverse needs. In 1994, Elisa graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing where she worked in a mental health setting supporting children and young adults for several years. In 2000, an opportunity arose to support a group of young and vibrant students with learning difficulties which is where her love for teaching children of all ages launched a new career in Special Education Support.
Elisa brings a great deal of passion and professionalism to her role at The Hills Learning Centre. Her education philosophy is that every child learns best when they feel happy, and their strengths and interests are used as a tool to achieve success. She also believes that a young person’s learning journey is empowered through collaboration and teamwork between educators and family while listening to the voice of the student!
In 2013, while working in a specialist school setting, Elisa received a Graduate Diploma of Speech and Communication from Macquarie University undertaking studies in Linguistics and Psychology. Over the following ten years, her role involved supporting students with complex and diverse needs where positive and strength-based goals were an essential part of their education. In 2023, she was appointed ‘Post-School Transition Officer’, where her role was to support families, and young people prepare for “life after school” in collaboration with teachers, allied health and NDIS.
In carrying out her role, Elisa adopts a holistic approach to each student’s journey catering for their learning needs, goals and choices. She strongly advocates that every child has a right to a positive and caring atmosphere where a strength-based approach is paramount to becoming an empowered individual at school and beyond.
